Job Description

Our client, an independent business with over 50 years experience within the engineering industry, are looking to recruit a Machine Operative to join their team at their facility in Scunthorpe, North Lincolnshire.

Objective of the role:

Reporting into the Machine shop manager, responsible for the running of a variety of machines within the workshop.

Job Summary

Hours of Work

  • Monday to Thursday, 0630 to 1500 & Friday 0600 to 1200 – 38 hours per week

Responsibilities

The following are a list of responsibilities for this role:

  • Working on various machines – vertical borers 5ft to 18ft / horizontal borers table size 700mm to 1.5m
  • Operating milling machines – Elgamill / radial arm drills / centre lathes / 900mm between centres to 4m between centres
  • Mount and dismount workpieces on/off the machinery
  • Bringing the workpiece to the desired shape and dimensions in accordance to specifications in the drawings
  • Quality control checks to be performed to ensure the finished piece meets the relevant specification
  • Responsible for keeping the machine and work area clean and tidy

Education

  • Knowledge of industrial machining and its techniques
  • Overhead Crane licence - DESIRABLE
  • Forklift Licence - DESIRABLE

Experience

  • Proven record of previous machine operative and/or turner operative experience within the engineering industry
  • Experience of mechanical maintenance practices and procedures for machine tools
